Setra FLEX critical room monitoring for Australian facilities
Setra FLEX brings room pressure and other environmental readings together on a local touchscreen. It suits projects that need a clear room-status display, multiple monitored parameters and integration with the building management system.
Technical overview
- Up to three rooms and six parameters per room, using the required sensors or network values.
- 7-inch colour touchscreen, usable with medical gloves.

FLEX-RM or FLEX-RC?
FLEX-RM is the monitoring configuration. FLEX-RC adds PI-loop or network control functions for suitable HVAC equipment. Specify RC explicitly when the room sequence requires control from FLEX. Equipment compatibility, available inputs and outputs, interlocks and the complete control sequence must be checked for the project.
Applications and selection
For operating theatres, agree which pressure, temperature, humidity and airflow information staff need to see and which adjustments they may make. In isolation rooms, coordinate the display with door status, local and remote alarms and the approved pressure relationship.
For laboratories, cleanrooms and pharmacies, identify the room boundaries and reference spaces before allocating sensors. A room-and-anteroom arrangement may need several differential-pressure measurements. Agree monitoring responsibilities and records with the facility team; a display alone does not establish containment, cleanroom classification or compliance.
BMS integration and external sensors
FLEX supports BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP. The BMS contractor should confirm the network type, device addressing, required objects, read/write permissions and alarm handling against Setra’s object list and the supplied firmware. Define how the BMS will trend values and report communication failures.
The documented hardware includes three universal inputs and one input used by the on-board pressure sensor, or as a general analogue input when that sensor is absent. Display capacity is not the same as the number of physical sensor inputs. Prepare an input allocation schedule before ordering; 4–20 mA input connections require the resistor arrangement specified by Setra.
Temperature, humidity, particle count and other environmental values require appropriate external sensors or supported network data. Do not assume the display contains sensors for every badge. Confirm the source and calculation of any ACH value.
Frequently asked questions
Can FLEX monitor three rooms without additional sensors?
The display supports three rooms, but each required measurement needs a suitable signal source. The selected pressure module and external sensor schedule determine the complete system.
Does every FLEX control valves or dampers?
No. Select FLEX-RC and validate the control arrangement when this functionality is required. FLEX-RM is for monitoring.
What should be included in a FLEX specification?
Identify the software configuration, room and sensor schedule, communication protocol, pressure range, mounting requirements and alarm or control sequence. Controls Direct can assist with the required product and accessory details.
Can FLEX display air changes per hour?
ACH is a supported parameter. The project must provide the appropriate airflow information and room-volume basis; pressure measurement alone cannot establish ACH.
